My guest for the evening is the incomparable Carlos Olmeda. He has chosen Quirky Songwriting as his theme. That is such a fun idea, I don't even know what to do with myself! Along with being one of the kindest and most humorous guys out there, Carlos is undeniably one of the finest singer/songwriters ever to grace San Diego, past or present. Even Jason Mraz thinks so. This is an all-day event that will leave you STILL wishing for more. They cram so much fun and music into one day that it is actually illegal anywhere else but Campland. Ok, that's not true, but it should be! I will be playing a set with my good friend Joe Rathburn, he will be playing with me on my solo set, we will both be playing (along with Jerry Gontang and Gary Seiler) in the Tiki Bar All Stars two-hour set, and I will be finishing off the evening sitting in with Jerry Gontang's band, Stars on the Water. I think the only person busier will be the sound engineer, and it is worth EVERY second!
I am back yet again as Joe's guest at this San Diego institution that Joe has created. I have yet to pick a theme, but whatever it is, it will be fun!
Local Artists Joe Rathburn, Cahill & Delene, and John Foltz play the music of Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell and Billy Joel.
Many singer/songwriters today spent their formative years studying the greats of the past in order to get a grasp on the craft they aspired to. Learning the songs of these heroes and mentors helped them not only learn how to write their own songs, but develop repertoires they could use to pay the bills. Such is the case with Joe Rathburn, Cahill & Delene, and John Foltz.
Much of guitarist/songwriter/performer Joe Rathburn’s early inspirations came from the writing of Paul Simon. Delene St. Clair, songwriter/vocalist/guitar player and half of the husband and wife act Cahill & Delene, poured over and absorbed the early songs of Joni Mitchell. Pianist/vocalist and songwriter, John Foltz, looked to Billy Joel as someone whose music spoke to him. Throughout their careers they’ve continued to include songs by these favorite artists in their mostly original sets, simply because that music makes them feel good. They repeatedly enjoy the feelings they experienced upon first hearing such wonderful music each time they perform it.
On Saturday, January 16, 2010 the three San Diego acts will give you the opportunity to experience that joy with them as they pay tribute to Simon, Mitchell, and Joel. The three acts will work both separately and together as they remind you why these stars inspired not only themselves, but a generation of music lovers.

Yeah, it's a drive if you don't live up that way, but if you miss this show, you'll hate yourself in the morning.
